FMSEA / FWC
AQUATIC SPECIES COLLECTING CERTIFICATE

Updated October 22, 2004

FMSEA and the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission have developed and implemented an aquatic species collection workshop for Florida Educators. Upon successful completion of the workshop, educators receive a 3-year collection certificate form the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

The workshop is available to certified Florida teachers and/or employees of educational centers. After successful completion of the 2 – 3 hour workshop, a certificate will be mailed to each recipient within 6 – 8 weeks. Certificate holders are eligible to collect specified aquatic species for educational purposes that would be restricted under fishing license guidelines. This Educator Certification is valid for 3 years. Renewal workshops are available.

During the training workshop, participants will discuss collecting alternatives, benefits, collection and transport techniques, methods to minimize environmental impact, restrictions imposed by the Collecting Certificate, available resources, and related activities.

Workshops are given annually at the FMSEA and FAST State conferences and throughout the year regionally. For information about workshops being given in your region, or if you have any materials or stories to share with other marine educators on this website, contact Kathy Russell, workshop coordinator at (904) 225-9280 (phone or fax) or email Krussty1@aol.com.
