FMSEA Newsletter

FMSEA publishes the Littoral Drift, a quarterly newsletter which contains information about educational workshop and conferences, teaching aids and resources, regional activities and events, field trip sites, and other articles of interest. Regional workshops and the annual spring conference are offered in locations throughout the state and provide opportunities for members to visit the diverse marine ecosystems of Florida.

Next issue deadline: Monday, June 7, 2010. Contact Laura Diederick with your updates (editor @ fmsea.org).

Littoral Drift Archive

Did You Know? Littoral drift consists of the transport of sediments (generally sand but may also consist of coarser sediments such as gravels) along a coast at an angle to the shoreline, which is dependent on prevailing wind direction, swash and backwash. This process occurs in or within close proximity to the surf zone and is also known as longshore drift, longshore transport and LSD. -Wikipedia
